WHAT IS IT ALL ABOUT?

The Stadium Dash brought to you by the team at Jump City is an event like no other in South Africa. It is a 5,5km action packed race through the inner workings of 4 of Durban's most iconic stadiums.

Runners will head out in the footsteps of the legends who entered these Stadiums before them along a course featuring over 24 challenges.

Nothing is off limits as we send you everywhere, from the players tunnels all the way to the highest points in these iconic venues.

Who is it for? We believe anybody with a keen sense of adventure, anybody who is willing to race in different locations.

The race is only as hard as you decide to push yourself, just do not skip leg day!

A LITTLE MORE ABOUT THE ROUTE

About the route : The course changes every year to accommodate urban development and new exciting features. This years course meanders along a 5,5km route in and around the Stadium Precinct, through stadiums, pools and other awesome features, 90% of the route is completely closed off to the public. The route is only as challenging as you make it by pushing yourself.

CHALLENGES ON ROUTE : –

Do not be scared or intimidated, you are tougher than you realize. Our challenges are not built to destroy you, but rather to challenge you in a way no other race does. To this point, we prefer to refer to this event as an adventure course. The challenges are rather unconventional, below is a list of all of the challenges on this years course in no particular order. Kindly note that there is one very big change, because we cannot physically setup challenges inside the stadiums themselves, we have set challenge zone along the route which will condense challenges across 5 different zone. We recommend a minimum age of 12 and that any minors are accompanied by an adult.

The routes are between 5km and 6km long. The distances are manageable for minors, but the challenges are not always.

Do I have to complete every challenge?

It is kind of why you signed up right? To challenge yourself?

We are not slave drivers and we are not going to enforce that you complete every challenge, but at least give it a try.

Can this event be cancelled?

Now that you know the 2 major rules, lets look at what else you need to know : –

Spectators

Spectators are more than welcome to the venue, but unfortunately no spectators can go into the Stadiums. We do not own or operate the Stadiums, we have agreements that allow us to run through, but unfortunately we have no control over other public access. The only venues with access is Kings Park Athletics Stadiums and Kings Park Swimming Pool. KZN Aquatics may charge a cover fee there to each spectator, this is beyond our control.

Route markings

The route is well marked with white boards and red arrows, each arrow will lead to the next. We also have blue and white danger tape preventing you from going off course. Please, never cross the bunting. You will then be off route and lost.

Bag drop

There is a secure bag and key drop for you at the venue. This service carries with it a R20 cash fee. You can leave your equipment there and collect it using your wrist band number when you return.

What must I wear?

You will be getting soaking wet, please do not take any electronics on route with you. Please wear comfortable running attire, it may be getting a little dirty so not your Sunday best.

I entered as a team, do I have to run with them?

Thats what teams do… They stick together. Teams are given a combined time of the top two runners per team.

At the venue

There is food, beverage and coffee all available in shops adjacent to Prime Gym at Moses Mabhida. Due to licensing rights of venues, we cannot place food or drinks vendors inside them.

Results

Results will be posted live on the day of the event through the event website. They remain provisional for the 1st 48 hours. The final combined results will be presented on the day of the event with prize money being paid out to winners within 10 days of the event. Winners will be contacted by the race office, winners must be present to qualify for prizes.

Race images

We do have photographers on route. They will be snapping pics that take around 3 days to edit, once the editing is complete we will send you a link.

Prize giving

This will happen when 60% of the field has completed the race, we cannot give an estimate of when that would be at this point.

What if it rains?

It could rain, it could even snow but we will go ahead. Spectators will remain warm and dry but athletes will be getting wet anyway. Just enjoy living your best life.

Challenges on route

We have 24 challenges on route, well 24 built challenges. We do not count the stairs the spirals, the tunnels and all that jazz as challenges. The policy is that the Elite batch must complete all challenges, the elites are guided out by a lead bike who helps by supervising. As for everybody else, common, seriously, you are out there just give them your best shot. We are not going to penalize you for not finishing a challenge, we rely on your honesty. Yes, you can help others. But no kicking, biting, scratching or spitting at people trying to overtake you, deal? Good. Remember that we are out there for a good time, not a long time and this race is more about the adventure than anything else, so have fun and don’t be that super serious human. Our challenges our built for all levels of athletes and they will only be as hard as you decide to push yourself. Well mostly, some of them are just hard, good luck!

Challenge placements : –

We have tried something new this year. In the past, we would spread challenges out across as much of the course as possible. This years route does not allow for that unfortunately and this presented us with an opportunity to try something new. We now have challenge zones. We cannot really place challenges in the middle of the Stadiums or up the ramps in Stadiums. The new challenge zones will see us put 3 – 4 challenges together in each zone. This means there may be a little more running distance between them, but bang for your buck at the challenges. Rest assured that we finish strong, you will encounter a large bulk of the challenges between Moses Mabhida and Kings Park Swimming Pool. Good luck!
