an event like no other

Set within the confines of the Ellis Park Stadium Precinct, athletes are set loose on a course that takes them through an action packed course littered with 24 challenges and some of the coolest features within 4 iconic stadiums.

Athletes can look forward to running out of the players tunnel, dashing across dizzying heights, leaping from high boards and sprinting across floating bridges. This years route features : -

Ellis Park Stadium | Johannesburg Stadium | Ellis Park Arena | Ellis Park Swimming Pool

The Dash route features no less than 24 obstacles over the 6.5km course which takes you through up and over Emirates Airline Park, the swimming pool, Joburg Athletics Stadium and much more. Please note the distance may vary by around 10% due to variations in measurement techniques and the complexity of the route.

the essential details

About the route : The course changes every year to accommodate urban development and new exciting features. This years course meanders along a 6,5km route in and around the Stadium Precinct, through stadiums, pools and other awesome features, 90% of the route is completely closed off to the public. The route is only as challenging as you make it by pushing yourself.

Route features : We are excited to welcome our new obstacle partners to the event. Marco Caromba from BattleRush in Johannesburg. Marco is one of the pioneers and lead ambassadors of obstacle course racing in South Africa and we could not be more excited to have the Portuguese viking involved. It is not our intention to scare you with challenges, everything is still manageable by the everyday athlete.

say hello to our lil friend

Marco Caromba, owner of Jozi X Adventure Park, Spartan SA & Battlerush

The Covid-19 regulation

Please take note, that we do not take Covid-19 lightly. The pandemic has had the events industry on it’s knees for 18 months, we will take all necessary precautions.

Covid-19 measures:-

Government has under level one of Covid-19 protocol allowed for events of 2000 max. To adhere to these rulings we will be doing the following for this leg of the race : –

– Start batches will be made smaller.

– Face masks will need to be worn when not racing.

– Water point procedure will be updated, you will be informed of this at the start and at the waterpoint.

By adhering to these measures, we know that you will be safer than flying in a plane or taking a taxi. Thank you in advance for your understanding and support during these times.

We look forward to seeing you at the event.

FAQ

Woah, hang on a second. Before you drop us a mail, please check if your question cannot be answered right away from the FAQ below:-

Must I wear my facemask when I run?

No, you are not required to wear a facemask while in the race. We advise you have a buff with you, this way the moment you finish you can simply pull the buff up and use it as a facemask. Remember, you will be getting wet during the race, a buff is more than likely the best option.

Is the event safe to take part in?

Yes, we are adhering to all safety measures in the public best interest and in keeping events operational.

 How old must I be?

Recommended 13+

How many challenges will there be?

This route will have between 22 and 26 challenges.

My ex-girlfriend is in my batch, please can I swap?

Time to rekindle an old flame, we cannot swap your batch once you are entered.

How hard is the race? I mean I can run 5km no problem, but will I manage this?

As with anything the race effort is directly proportionate to how hard you push yourself. We are not out there to hurt you or exhaust you, we just want you to have a good time.

When do substitutions close?

We can facilitate substitutions until 72 hours prior to the event, after that we unfortunately cannot make a substitution. The entry cannot be carried over as it is catered for on the day.

What if myself or a team mate gets Covid and cannot take part?

Unfortunately no insurer is covering this circumstance. The risk management falls on the athlete in the lead up to the race and no refund on withdrawals will be provided. You can however substitute until 72 hours prior to the event.

RACE INFO.

Nearly 2 years later and we are back at it, we could not be more excited to bring you a fully loaded Stadium Dash . Please take a moment to read through this to familiarize yourself with the process for event night. We know it’s long, but please read it.

1. Welcome back

It has been nearly 12 months since we brought you the lite edition in 2020. The gloves are off and this course is now fully loaded with around 24 challenges and 7km of action.

2. Safety

Your safety is our priority. We have waited 19 months to put on a fully loaded event and we are not going to compromise your safety or the future of events by taking unnecessary risks. In light of this, batches are smaller, the start / finish and number collection are all well distributed across the venue. By taking part in this event, you agree that you have not knowingly come into contact with any Covid-19 positive individuals and you are not displaying any of the known symptoms. You will be screened before entering into the batch, should your temperature reflect higher than 37.4, your participation will be reviewed by the Safety Officer on duty. Anybody considered to be risking the safety of others will not be permitted to race and subsequently asked to leave the event.

– The use of face masks is mandatory when you are not racing (all the way into the start pen). We suggest the use of a buff as you can race with one and just pull it back up when your race is completed.
Water point safety, there is a water point on route and we will be using Covd-19 best practice. To avoid all risk we advise skipping the water point.
No substitutions in the week of the event. Your details have been submitted to our compliance officer and we cannot change them.

All the above rules are provided to us by safety management and our compliance officer. We realize it is not how we normally operate, but it is the time we are living in and we thank you in advance for your understanding, it is strange for us too. This too shall pass.

3. Number collection

Number collection will open at 05:30 at Ellis Park down near the main entrance, you cannot miss it. You will not need to print anything, just arrive ready for adventure. There is secure undercover parking at Ellis Park, we will send directions ahead of the time. The entire venue is split up to spread the field out. Please only head to number collection 45 minutes prior to your start, then head to the start pen around 5 minutes ahead of your start time which will be displayed on your wrist band. This will be a very different race village to what we ordinarily have.

4. Bag drop

There is a secure key / bag drop available next to the fan park, this will be available for R20 per bag.

5. Results

Provisional results will be posted within 12 hours of the event to the event website and the winners contacted within the following week.

6. On route

The entire route is well marked out with red arrows on white boards. We do have to compete with every other piece of signage within the venue and the city, so you will notice that we put the signs directly in your path and always pointing to where the next sign is, they are reflective. If you have to cross the danger tape, you will be off route, so please never cross the tape.

7. For Brendan

We run this event in loving memory of a fellow event team member, friend and brother recently lost to us. He was the first man onto the course, the last man off and the reason you do so many stairs at the Stadium Dash events.

Thank you for taking the time to read through this and for your understanding around the changes, we look forward to seeing you on Friday. Keep an eye out on social media regarding a very exciting announcement and addition to the event.

See you out there.

The Stadium Dash Team
